So, it’s all going down at Nederburg. Why? Because the Cape is the culinary destination of SA, the winelands instantly recognizable to international viewers, weather’s great at this time of year and there’s good access to fresh local produce. Oh, and close enough to interesting off-site challenges.
But back to Nederburg. It’s all happening in the Johann Graue Auction Hall, which is where the Nederburg auction takes place every year. The 1000-square-metre building has just undergone an extensive overhaul with more than 20 cooking stations equipped with state-of-the-art appliances and utensils. And in case you were thinking about getting a sneak peak, the venue is strictly off limits until production is concluded in March. And did I mention the series begins screening on M-Net on 20 March? (If all goes according to plan Tall Paul and I will be watching from our luxury suite on the Blue Train en route to Cape Town from Jozi for our ten year anniversary. How exciting is that?!)
And I suppose that by now you already know that the judges are chefs Pete Goffe-Wood, Andrew Atkinson and Benny Masekwameng.
South Africa’s first Masterchef will receive over R8-million in prizes, which includes cash, a car, a trip to Italy, a sommelier course, one-on-one master classes from an award-winning cellarmaster, wine and his or her very own restaurant. Sadly, no mention of a book, though.
Some pics of the venue:

Its a beautiful venue! And I do hope the winner gets a book deal out of it. It would be a big oversight if they don’t Bern! Ooooh the Blue Train is something that hubby and I would love to do….one day when we grow up hehe! I hope it all goes to plan for you and Tall Paul! xx
Me too, me too! Will most certainly have to blog about the Blue Train when it happens! x
