With 2011 drawing to a close, it’s the time for list-making – whether it be shopping lists, ‘best of’ lists or trend forecasts. Here’s one list I stumbled upon, which I absolutely love.
10 Best food and wine apps for iPad
by bern on December 3, 2011 in In the Bag, In the News
I recently got the iPad 2. I love it. So much. Here are my ten most favourite apps to download. Question is: will I ever read a book again? Maybe on a beach holiday…
Reuben Riffel’s new cookbook: Reuben Cooks Local
by bern on October 8, 2011 in In the Bag
I was so lucky to have worked on Reuben’s new book. And even though, when I finally held it in my hands, I knew what it was all about, I was still astonished by the size of it – it’s HUGE. And beautiful. And filled with delicious recipes. (And in it you’ll find a directory of Reuben’s top suppliers with all their contact details)

Reyneke Wines – Biodynamic wine in Stellenbosch
by bern on August 29, 2011 in In the Bag, In the News
I recently had the most inspirational wine tasting I’ve experienced to date. It was at Reyneke Wines in Stellenbosch. A biodynamic farm where wines are made with as little intervention as possible to accurately portray the terroir and the character of the grape.
Haute Cabrière Unwooded Pinot Noir
by bern on August 2, 2011 in In the Bag, In the News
Haute Cabrière has just launched South Africa’s first Unwooded Pinot Noir. It’s really a red wine pretending to be white and ending up looking like a rosé. Know what I mean? It’s vibrant. It’s elegant. It’s fruity. And served slightly chilled, it hits all the right notes.

Must-read food book: Return to Camdeboo
by bern on June 26, 2011 in In the Bag, In the News
This is one of my favourite food books of all time, partly because my great aunt Eve Palmer wrote it. Both the Plains of Camdeboo and Return to Camdeboo have just been re-published by Penguin since being out of print for a number of years. The Penguin launch will be happening at the Schreiner Karoo Writers Festival in Cradock on the 9th of July.

I love a good whisky. And I love great design and packaging – who doesn’t? Which is why I’ve got my eye on the new, limited-edition Chivas Regal 18-year-old Gold Signature dressed by Vivienne Westwood.
